 Subject: Breastfeeding premies

 Ruth;
Just alittle back ground on myself. I am a nurse and IBCLC in a 59 bed
Level
 three NICU.
Have you tried Cup feeding? There would be no device attached to the
mother
which would be in the way of resusitation if need be. I have fed a number of
premies by the cup feeding meth. and they do much better than with a bottle.
I can give you some info on it if you want, just send me your slow mail
address or fax. Please don't rule out cup feeding until you read the
info/research. We have one Neo who was very set against cup feeding until I
got her to read the research and the tech. We are starting to institute it
in
 our NICU.
I don't understand why they are using a haberman feeder with the one twin.
The high flow of this device would increase the apnea/bradycardia.

I hope this will help. It is so frustrating, these earlyer and earlyer
discharges. These infants are just not ready to do, what we think they
should
be ready to do, when we think they should be ready to do it.
