Ann: I believe the product that mom is taking is called "Fat Grabbers" and
is little more than glorified fiber. That's not to say it doesn't work as
a fiber supplement, just that there's nothing all that spectacular about
it. Lecithin is a fat emulsifying agent (also found in egg--that's why
mayonaise stays in suspension form). The psyllium is the same as in many
OTC laxatives. And the guar gum and chickweed have both soluble and
insoluble fibers. There's no reason for this mom to stop taking this
UNLESS it gives her diarrhea. In that case, she is at risk for eventually
depleting both her fat soluble vitamin stores and possibly upsetting her
electrolyte balance. Of course, it is possible for anyone (mother or baby)
to have an allergic reaction to just about anything...so remind her to
"watch her baby closely."

"Mother of a nursing 8 month old wants to lose weight . She has been to an herb
shop and has been encouraged to take a capsule containing psyllium, guar gums,
lecithin, and chickweed. She is supposed to take 4 capsules 3 times a day with
meals, with a glass of water before and after the capsule."
