We had that situation with a mom who lost a baby in the NICU - she had a lot and
I was able to take it to Washington's Georgetown Milk Bank as I had a trip last
January.

Problems I encountered:
1. Used coolers (inexpensive ones from the drug store) placed in boxes and got
donated dry ice. Took the coolers to the area that they ship boxes and they
wrapped them well with the plastic wrap at no charge - this helped by
protecting the box and cooler and sealing it better.
2. Airlines limit dry ice to 5 lbs per person.
3. Coolers got lost for over 24 hours - and my trip was delayed and I missed my
connection and went to a different airport. Airline delivered the coolers to
the director of the bank's home and it was still frozen solid.

It occurred to me that as so many people travel from here to Washington, DC it
would not be too difficult to get the boxes to the US, but now the airlines ask:
Are you transporting anything you were asked to transport by someone else and
that you did not pack? We tried to get someone else to take a box, who was
going to the same meeting as I was, but she refused due to this problem...

It took two of us quite a few hours to get all this set up, but it was worth it.
