Hi,
I hope this is Kosher. In my community we have several very vocal doctors
that loudly complain about starting the mothers of babies that aren't eating
pumping. They think that we should send the mothers home from the hospital
on day 2 with a slightly yellow, sleepy baby and pray that he wakes up or
some how gets his act together. And of course the mothers will not use the
formula in the diaper bag we send home.
I have heard Dr Nieford speak several times about lactation risk factors. I
think her talk might convince the docs that we need to start the mothers
pumping. I have talked to her and she could come to San Luis Obispo,
California in September 12, 1997. My hospital is worried that we couldn't
draw enough lactation specialist to pay for her fees. Please e-mail me if
you would be interested in attending this meeting. We will set up ceu's for
R.N., M.D. and IBCLC.
The meeting agenda isn't set yet, but we also thought that we would get one
of our pediatricians to talk about "red flags," in the well baby nursery.
By the way weekends in the central coast of California in September are
lovely.
Again I hope posting this message is ok
