Nancy Kramer: what is mother's age? I remember it being discussed on
Lactnet a while back that occasionally, elderly parturients have very
little milk. The cause of which may possibly be my second question: is
there a possibility to think that maybe mom is hypothyroid? I understand
that this is not rare postpartum. Could mom have simple thyroid screening
blood tests (TSH, T3, T4)? How much in your opinion is stress a factor?
We know that "too much" stress lowers prolactin - but how much is too
much is rather a fuzzy area and per se must be be individualistic. Does
mom give a pacifier? Pacifier use may lead to "lazy suck" on the infant's
part. I'll let the more knowledgeable chime in with herbals, but just
allow me to put in a good word for chamomille, to help mom relax. Good
luck. Judy Knopf in Beer Sheva, Israel
