I got the most infuriating piece of nonsense from McDonald's in the mail
today. I wrote them several weeks ago to express my concern about the New
Jersey "incident", as well as to suggest that they develop a
breastfeeding-friendly policy for their restaurants worldwide. I also
suggested that they promote breastfeeding the way they do other causes,
etc. (i.e., vaccinating children, a recent placemat promo). So here's what
they said (if you're interested in what my letter to them said, email me):
Dear Ms. Kramer
Thank you for writing to express your concern about a recent incident at a
McDonald's restaurant.
First, let me begin by saying the incident involving a mother nursing her
child was a misunderstanding. At McDonald's, we want all of our customers
to feel comfortable and at ease. Our company does not have a policy
against nursing mothers in our restaurants.
Because this is an isolated incident, we feel it is inappropriate to
discuss any further details at this time. You may be interested to know
that the owner of the restaurant wanted to discuss the matter personally
with the customer, but did not have her name or phone number.
In any event, we hope the above helps clarify any misinformation you may
have heard. Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us about
this issue. As a valued customer, your feedback is important to us and
will be shared with the appropriate people here at McDonald's.
Sincerely,
Jill Wiaduck

What garbage. Didn't have her name or phone number. Ha. And I never
suggested that they had a policy *against* nursing mothers; I merely said
that they needed to develop one FOR nursing mothers!
Well, I don't exactly know what to do now. Except be glad for the 15 pounds
I've lost in the last month and a half since I stopped going to McD's!!
