Debbie,
Although the LLL leader was indeed rude, it seems to me that your
response was a little sensitive. The mother has a right to chose her
caregiver. However, since the hospital nurse asked you to consult I would
have spoken to her to check that it was okay that someone else visit the
mother and explain the situation. If the other LLL leader choses to drive
out of her way and work for free that is her perogative. It is not very
comforting for someone trying to get paid for services rendered but that is
where it's at these days for LC's. I would not have then offered my
services for free, as that undermines the value of those services.
As far as LLL leader rights to visit a mother, I would think in terms of
what LLL leader visits are meant to be for. They are a form of mother to
mother support not a Health Care Professional visit. This is obviously not
what the LLL leader was doing. What she was doing was using one hat to
rationalize wearing the other. It may stiff you of needed income and was
butting in but if she keeps it up with others she will burn out. Look at
the positive side, mothers are getting the help they need by qualified people.
Hope this helps
Jennifer
