I also believed secretly that breastfed babies would be less likely to
suck thumbs that bottlefed, but started having doubts after reading a
thread on Lactnet about maybe a year ago....when many lactnetters posted
that their kids bf and in spite of everything were still thumbsuckers. I
am pretty sure that in the matter of bf babies and security items, there
is a similar need *not* to be dogmatic. Danielle trailed around with
Dipee for years. Major trauma to wash it. Yeah, sure, I even laughed at
Lucy and Linus once......People are individuals, and the ranges for
anything along a psychological parameter that you want to consider are
very often not even known. Now, I really feel uncomfortable with a belief
(that may be passed on to the public as LC gospel) that breastfed babies will
not suck their thumbs. It's probably like the weight loss business and
any number of other things - most do, but some don't, and everybody's OK.
As far as bf babies not needing security items, well, I could hardly
subscribe to that, after the Dipee Experience, could I? :-)
