Jan B, to clarify my post: when I quiz moms about their caffeine intake
(before tackling the dairy possibility), this is to ascertain the
*amount* of caffeine. Thus, if a mom admits to, say, 3 cups of coffee
plus 2 cups of tea plus the occasional chocolate something-or-other, and
Coca Cola here and there, I
will suggest that she cut out the chocolate (hypocrit that I am!) and the
carbonated stuff, and
reduce the coffee/tea to 2 cups altogether a day and "see if this helps".
A lot of moms of fussy babies are told that their babies fuss so much
because they are spoiling their babies (!Boooo!) or that the baby is
gassy/colicky/fussbudget because he is being breastfed more often than
every 4 hours. Couldn't believe I was hearing right on that one! Wish I
knew where people get some of these weird ideas, and how they moved away
from their roots so durn quickly. Most of the moms I counsel were
themselves breastfed for several years. Now that I think of it, *they*
are at exactly the place *my* mom was in back in 1946, when I was born.
And NOT breastfed :-(
Judy Knopf (hypertensive since 35 - probably because bottlefed - and
wanting for someone to research infant feeding method and hypertension
later in life!)
