Hi all,
I've finally managed to subscribe after serveral unsuccessful attempts.
I'm a midwife , mother and LC living in Gisborne New Zealand.Mother to
Jenny 16 , Tim 15 and Tess 8.I'm really enjoying the lactnet but find
its taking up a lot of my evening reading all the interesting posts.
Kirstin mentioned cabbage leaves . These have been used with good effect
for a while over here though now there is some question about them being
used if there is any suggestion of nipple trauma as tetanus spores may
be able to enter if there are any about. There is a study printed in JHL
September 95 that compares cooled and room temp cabbage leaves and it
has a good reference list.I have found that they can be effective but
prefer frequent feeding as a way of reducing engorgement in fact I find
that it is seldom a problem if mothers are encouraged to feed at least
2-3 hourly for the first few days.
