Thanks to all who helped validate my learning about breastfeeding Infants
of Mom's with gestational diabetes and diet. Now I'm aking for help
again. I have a client with a three day old baby who has tongue sucked
since birth and will not latch on to the breast. Mom previously nursed a
baby for about one year without problems. This baby was born after a
fast labor with 1mg. of Stadol to mom. Baby tongue sucked right after
birth. Baby able to latch on to my finger with a strong suck and tongue
is nice and cupped over lower gum. Mom has Great nipples with lots of
milk! I have tried sitting baby on her lap to assist with bringing the
tongue down to no avail. I can even see him begin to reach for the
nipple, but no matter how we try to bring him to the breast he slips his
tongue back and sucks it even if he starts to latch on. Anyone have some
other suggestions we can try or knowledge as to why kids do this
behavior. I love lactnet and going to conferences and putting faces with
names I've read. This is an invaluable resource! Thanks in advance for
your help!
