Pat, your statement about the mom who'd quit and gone to bottlefeeding
struck something in my muddled little head. You said, "...and she seemed
quite happy about her decision." Only recently I've had mothers that I've
practically sweated blood for and they ended up feeding abm, and they broke
my heart. But ALL of them said, "I feel better than I have in weeks. I'm so
glad I decided to do this (bottlefeed abm)."

In hindsight, I realize that what Kathy said was right: that we give info,
and that's really all we can do short of breastfeeding for them. It takes
some time to get used to the idea, but in reality, a mom who has TRIED to
bf and, for one reason or another, quits/fails/whatever, is VERY different
from a mom who flat out says, "I don't want to breastfeed." True, it hurts
to be "used" as an excuse to quit. But it will continue to happen no matter
what we do. That is, until doctors start truly helping women make informed
choices and give proper emphasis on the importance and value of bf.
