Lactnet has replaced to some extent the down-time things I used to do --
play free cell on the computer, watch the umpteenth reruns of star trek, read dumb murder mysteries.  I still read murder mysteries, but now that I don't read two-three books a day, I can skip the dumb ones.

You're right -- it's an addiction, but unlike running or some of the other healthy
addictions, it's something I can do in the middle of the night.
