Hi All,
You know what would be really nice? For every community to have a list that
is sent around to ALL HCPs that lists all the people/agencies within the
community who offer BF help/services. Included in that list would be WIC
programs, pump stations, CLEs, IBCLCs, hosp related LC's, LLL, etc. The list
coupld be as simple as main phone numbers for info (ie main LLL #, main # for
pump stations, a main # for IBCLCs and CLEs, etc) or it could be as detatiled
as defining by area what services are available (Like for Sacramento; North
Area, Soouth Sac, Rancho Cordova {hey! That would be me!} etc.). The lists
for a small community could give names of those available for BF help.
Here in Sacramento we do have a "Pump List" (a list of pump rental stations
and the qualifications of those who run them) that circulates through out the
community and the local hospitals. It is very helpful, but it is limited in
its usefulness because it doesn't get out to ALL the HCPs offices (Peds,
OB/GYNs, etc).
An idea I have had for a while (but have no time for) would be an even bigger
list that would be for those of us IN the field of BF support people and
programs around our respective countries. A mom calls us to say she is
moving and needs info on who is avaiable in the town she is moving to, we
open up our "BF Yellow Pages" and there is the info.
The biggest obstacle I see in this type of list (especially for large
communities or cities) is getting this list to ALL the HCPs out there
(including the BF support people/programs themselves). It would be an
interesting project for local LC associations to take on for their respective
commuities, don't ya think?
Heck, after baby comes (if this kid EVER comes!) maybe I will take on this
type of project for Sacramento. I can present the idea at our local LC
association for help with this type of HUGE project. I think I will!
Anyway, what do the rest of you think about this?

Jay
Always trying to come up with more to do than she can handle! :)
