We recognized the problem some of you are encounters regarding OBS staff
not learning about BFing if the LC in the centre(clinic) does the work.
Thus, our centre is a joint operation staffed by both Public Health Nurses
(IBCLC's) and OBS nurses. Sometimes this is trying, as are most worthwhile
endeavors, but with ongoing discussion meetings, we feel progress is being
made. The nurses are learning more correct techniques and we are learning
more about the realities of hospital nursing. For the most part, our
relationship is improving with working together. It is difficult for LC's
to not jump in and "do it right" but as long as we make sure clients get
the right teaching before they leave, it's worth it to let the nurses have
a go.
STUPID ADVICE: Local doc' told a mother we had started supplementing with
formula via SNS "of course your baby is growing better on formula--IT
TASTES BETTER ( see, I didn't know this-we really can all learn from each
other ha!)
Good Luck with your CENTRES
