Coach Smith here again, to respond to the post from Rose Devigne-Jackiewicz who described a mom who collapsed after running a marathon, and someone blamed breastfeeding.
Nah, probably wasn't breastfeeding that did her in. More likely her toenail polish was toxic. Or the race course went through a Superfund cleanup site. Or maybe it was the glue in her sneakers that done the deed. Or she was kidnapped by space aliens during a lonely stretch of the race and returned at the finish line after the aliens had "experimented" on her body.
Where do they come up with this stuff??? Somebody should hire these people as science fiction writers.
Running a marathon is a very, very grueling and physically draining endeavor for anyone. The metabolic cost to her body of running 26 miles is staggering (no pun intended). Lactation is not likely to be the part that pushed her over the edge. Runners often collapse after long races, including some who require hospitalization - that's why there are food-drink stations all along the race course and ambulances standing by.
Linda Smith, Dayton OH where we are currently being assaulted by an anti-cosleeping campaign, this time from the police department and coroner's office. The campaign actually says that taking your sick child to bed with you can be lethal. They offer no evidence of facts to support this statement, mind you.
