There's been a lot of discussion about empowering women and LC's making a
difference and our hope for the next generation. I thought you all might
enjoy a recent riddle that was going around our postpartum floor: A father
and son were in a terrible car accident. The father was taken by ambulance
to the hospital. The son was also taken to a hospital; but a different one
than his father went to. The son needed surgery. When the surgeon saw the
patient, the surgeon told the staff, "I cannot operate on this patient, he
is my son". Who is the surgeon? ___________
Give up? His mother. Now if you all got it right, pat yourself on the
back. But a whole floor of nurses, doctors, nps, midwives, and LC (oy!)
couldn't answer it. There were some pitiful attempts - his stepfather? a
priest? I decided to try the riddle out on my 8-yr-old daughter. Her
response - "What a dumb riddle mom - the surgeon is his mother - anyone
could figure that one out!" Yup - there's lots of hope for our women of the
future!
