So I like to brag about new levels I have achieved helping mothers breast
feed. Inspired by my trip to Mexico, the discussion on International
Pediatric Chat, and what I learned at lactnet.

I went into the nursery Monday morning and was approached by the nurse
snickering because a new baby born the night before at 32 to 34 weeks
gestation was on an IV and the mother wanted the IV out and the child to
only breast feed. I told her to leave the IV in and give the mother a
chance until I return at 12:30. Mind you the mother nursed one previous
child and was very determined. When I got back she had one poor but one
latching on feeding. I told the nurses to do nothing but breast feed but
they could pump and give some of the mothers milk by gavage too. NO Bottles
and I picked up the pacifier from the warmer and threw it in the garbage
can. I then discussed with the mother about rooming in for her after
discharge and told her we will only nurse this baby.

I have to brag
