Dena -- how awful for you --

I would find out of this was a hospital-wide attitude, in line with hospital protocols, or the nurse's personal approach..

If the former, write the administration to advocate a more breast-feeding supportive approach, and hope/plan to have successive deliveries (if any) elsewhere.

If the latter, the nurse's own approach -- report the nurse!!!  ( If you feel up to it,
write the nurse as well.)
