This is a little off the thread of using donor milk for adults but...
I had a pp mom who shared her story. She had 2 other children. The oldest
was a drowning victim at about age 3 and was now about 7. (it has been a few
years so I don't rem. exactly) This child required almost total care and tube
feedings. She had read everything she could about nurtition and brain
redevelopment. She had her on a diet high in yams for the nurtients, and she
didn't use a lot of milk products. Sorry but I really can't rem all her
rationalizations. ( I have had 2 children since then and lost more brain
cells) She asked me about pumping her milk for this child!! I of course
went over the demands of a newborn and pumping for tube feeds and the
amounts. She thought it would be good as far a nutrtion, not even knowing of
the extra benefits for brain growth and extras for a compromised immune
system! She was excited about the possibilites.
I lost touch with her, but wouldn't it be amazing if we could prove it to
be of benefit to these patients!
