I went to my supermarket to ask the produce manager if they had savoy
cabbage. He showed it to me and proceeded to describe its flavor and
what recipes it is used for. BTW, it costs .79/lb, and the left over
St. Patty's Day cabbage was on sale for .10/lb (usually .25/lb). I
bought some .10 cabbage, good buy. When I said I was interested in it
for reducing swelling, he didn't look shocked, so I continued to explain
its effectiveness with engorgement. Maybe he was in shock because even
that didn't get the typical raised-eyebrow reaction. He then insisted
on getting his book about vegetables to show me what info was available
about savoy (has higher level of Vit C). Now our produce manager knows
more about breastfeeding. We LC's will look for any opportunity to
teach breastfeeding.
I once used green cabbage on my foot when I stepped on a wasp. It stung
me before I squashed it. My foot felt so much better w/ cabbage that I
kept it on all day and night, sleeping with it on. I wrapped my foot
with cabbage and kept it in place with a tight sock.
