I have a mom with a 3 month old, 14#, who has had a very erratic and
unpredictable nursing career. He will nurse fine for a week or so and then
suddenly refuse to even try to latch and arches away from her on even after
hours of not nursing. The mother is being treated for post partum
depression. Her anxiety tends to be very high which the baby may be
responding to. She feels rejected when he is like this and is wondering how
and when to make this easier. How long to wait between feedings before
worrying, etc. She has tried finger feeding with an SNS which is OK but, as
she says, is not adequate for sustaining him.
Getting him to latch on can take 15 min. and even then he may nurse only a
few minutes.
ANY IDEAS? If you need more info, I will get it.
