Got a call from a mom today who is nursing her 10-month old with no
problems. She has had 3 lumps in her breast since pregnancy, and now
reports that they are still there and getting larger (Yikes, I know...).
She has been told that she must stop breastfeeding in order to be properly
diagnosed with a mammogram. I think that she should skip the mammogram due
to the inconclusiveness of the results of a reading on a lactating breast.
Couldn't (and shouldn't) an aspiration or biopsy be done without immediately
sacrificing breastfeeding?? Who out there has dealt with this subject and
can help me with a definite answer? I don't want to fool around with
possibly improper advice on this one...
Thanks!
