Is there anyone on Lactnet with personal or helping experience of Pierre
Robin syndrome? I have the information from Ruth Lawrence's book (thanks,
Pam). This particular baby is 5 days old, with breathing difficulties,
though she is now off oxygen. Her chin is recessed and there is no ability
to suck but there is no cleft palate. The palate is rather high though.
What is the prognosis for learning how to breastfeed? The guesstimates
range from 4 -6 weeks to 9 months. The mother goes from overly optimistic
(IMO) to really downhearted, but she is supplying all the milk needed at
present. Are there any special techniques for stimulating a suck in this
baby? I would appreciate a private reply as I am NOMAIL at present. Thanks
