Hello,
My name is Lisa Shumate. I am an LLLL and ICCE in central Florida. I
have been lurking for a few weeks, and I am thoroughly impressed by the
vast and varied knowledge base I've witnessed here. (Although the volume
of this and TLC can be quite overwhelming!)
I had to add this dialog with my ex-OB (oops, that sounds a lot like SOB
when you read it). This took place when I returned for my annual exam
when my first child was 14 mo. and he discovered that I was
breastfeeding: "Have you had another baby since I saw you last, because
I know you can't still be nursing the one I delivered?" That was the
last time I saw him. Contrast that with my current ob/gyn, who when I
began threatening miscarriage (for the third time), did not recommend I
wean my 20 mo.

P.S. Dr. Jack - I truly enjoyed your article on "Breastfeeding and
Guilt" in the International Journal of Childbirth Education. I can think
of a few physicians I'd like to loan your article to!
