Since 1984 I have been screaming and shouting in print and elsewhere that
mastitis is mastitis is breast inflammation, like dermatitis is skin
inflammation and tonsillitis is tonsil inflammation. Can we please use
words... I hesitate to say precisely??? Sorry Jack, but this is important,
not merely le mot juste. The Inch-Fisher article alluded to earlier on
Lactnet is bound to say just the same thing: it is the British and
Australian definition of mastitis. And symptoms can be identical all the
way to full blown rigors and causes may yet be infectious, obstructive or
allergic in origin. Sometimes blocked ducts are involved in all kinds of
mastitis; if that alone is present it is obstructive.. I wrote a whole
chapter on this and won't repeat myself here.
