I read this on parent-l, and it intrigues me because a mom I've been
advising is beginning to sound as though this might be part of HER problem
as well. It didn't ring a bell until I read this. If you have comments,
can you please email Cindy privately if you can, or else just post to the
net or my private email, whichever seems appropriate. Thank you.

Subject: Parent-l: another motrin question

With all the posts recently about motrin causing possible damage to the GI
tract and people reporting things like bleeding ulcers after taking motrin,
I'd
like to ask one more question.
Up until 8-10 months of age, Sam (now 14 months) was reacting with rashes,
blood in stool and diarhhea to an enormous variety of foods in my diet. I
couldn't eat corn, wheat, dairy, oats, soy , peanuts, walnuts, citrus or
eggs.
He's gotten better in the past several months and now I'm mainly just
avoiding
corn and dairy and limiting wheat. It was hard for me to believe that he
could
be reacting to so many things and I keep trying to come up with possible
explanations. Here's my latest theory.... a few years ago when I was
running
competitively and perpetually injured, I was taking huge amounts of motrin
(up
to 3200mg/day most every day for about 2-3 years). Is it possible that
I've
damaged my own gut ('leaky gut'?), and that the damage would still be
present
after 3 or so years without motrin, and consequently I've been leaking
bigger
bits of undigested proteins into my bloodstream and hence my milk, thereby
making milk that was less digestible for sam?
I've come up with this theory by piecing together bits of information I
read
here and there, but I have no references and don't know if studies exist on
such a connection. If anyone has heard of such research, please let me
know.
thanks
- -Cindy
