Angie you are definitely NOT out in left field here! Yeast is everywhere!
Bras should be boiled, or at least ironed if at all possible to kill the
yeast. (some have even suggested putting them in the microwave, but concerns
about the metal have been risen). Bra pads (if washable) should be changed
frequently and boiled, if bra pads are disposable type, then change
frequently to avoid nipp and areola being in contact with moisture from
leaking milk for extended periods of time.
Yeast is such a nasty beast that I reccommend to my clients wha are fighting
it that they get as aggessive with it as possible at the outset. This
includes dietary changes, using white vinegar and water solution for a rinse,
taking acidopholis getting medical treatment, etc. I have seen what NOT
treating yeast at the outset can do to a mom, and don't want anyone to go
through that!

Afraid enough of those yeastie beasties to suggest aggressive measures at the
outset!

PS HAving just read Barbara's post about yeast, I must agree with her
wholeheartedly! When treating aggressively for thrush, I always have mom go
to her Dr for a diagnosis. When time has passed and the thrush should be
cleared up and it is not, then mom is sent back to the Dr to find out WHY she
is still have symptoms. We have also found that after the initial thrush was
treated, mom had a dermititis or allergic repeonse to something else that was
causing symptoms similar to thrush. Referring to the Dr makes it so someone
else is checking mom as well, and that treating for thrush does not go into
ridiculous amounts of time (it should not take several months to get rid of
yeast, should it? I wouldn't think so!)
