First, why is it that doctors, mother's in-law, grandmothers, and
neighbors feel like they have the right to tell mothers "don't let that
baby use you as a pacifier." OOOH, this really ticks me off. For some
documentation on why pacifiers are so bad in the early weeks (not to
mention when you're kid is 4 years):
Barros, FC et al "Use of pacifiers is associated with decreased
breastfeeding duration." Pediatrics, 1995; 95:497-99.
Neifert, M. et al. "Nipple confusion: toward a formal definition." J
Pediatrics 1995; 126(6):S125-29.
Newman, J "Breastfeeding problems associated with early introduction of
bottles and pacifiers." J. Hum Lact 19090; 6(2): 59-63.
Victora, CG et al. "Use of pactifers and breastfeeding duration." Lancet
1993; 341: 404-06.
Good LLLuck!
