As distressing as it would be to have a good friend CHOOSE to bottlefeed (as
opposed to have it happen to her when breastfeeding didn't go well), I could
cope with it. I have to confess that my greatest nightmare concerning
breastfeeding is becoming the grandmother of bottlefed babies. I have two
sons, so will be a mother-in-law someday (I hope, anyway). This is a
difficult enough role to fill, but imagine how those daughters-in-law might
feel with an LC for a m-in-l. I've been taking "grandma lessons" from
clients the past couple of years, observing and learning about how to butt
out of the kids' lives and keep my mouth shut. I guess this fits in nicely
with the recent posts on how frustrating it is when we feel we've
"failed"with a nursing couple (or with our child who is smoking--several of
you have written privately to let me know I'm not the only one struggling
with this one!). I'll be there with information if my kids want it and ask
for it, but boy, will it be hard to keep my mouth shut, particularly if the
mothers decide not to bf!!
