Hello, someone asked about mammary duct ectasia-I have seen this once, and
it was in a woman who had nursed 7 children, and then had a set of twins.
She came to me symptomatic with this. I could find nothing to help her. Her
nipples looked bulgy and soft, not firm, and they were always tender when
she nursed. I made the diagnosis based on exclusion of all other
possibilities. I felt really sorry for her, and she decided to reach a
steady state of supplementation with abm, so partially breastfed. To me, it
seemed to be the only etiology of sore nipples that I couldn't help to
resolve (except for emotional reasons for sore nipples)- Anne Eglash MD
