I, for one, will continue to use gentian violet and a pox on the rats.

I fear that rat-lovers around the world will be unhappy, but if you simply
painted them with the gentian, turning them a lovely shade of VIOLET, would
this do?  :-)

To pox on them seems a bit viole(n)t to me!!!  (sorry, Jack, I could not
resist!)
