I just got back on this list today after having been off for several
months so please excuse me if this is old news. I want to spread the
word about Oprah's reccomended book for the month which is Song of
Soloman by Toni Morrison.
The book portrays breastfeeding a four year old as sexual and shameful
several times. She calls the mother's milk thin, faintly sweet, and
describes the chid as having to make an effort to not bite his mother,
as well as really not wanting to nurse (it was a daily chore his mother
made him perform).
The first line in my letter to Oprah was "I can't believe I just
spent $12 to promote breastfeeding ignorance."
