As a mother of three children on apnea monitors, two severe, I found that
the only time my children did NOT stop breathing was when at the breast.
Some nights, after 20 to 30 episodes, I would take the babes to my
breast, sitting in a partially upright recliner and have peace at last.
Of course, being a fast learner, quickly hit the chair as soon as it
looked like it was going to be "one of those nights".
I also discovered that the children had more frequent episodes when they
slept in the cradle next to me versus in my bed or in arms. James
McKenna and Bill Sears and their work with co-parent child sleeping and
the decreased incidence of SIDS supported what I discovered on my own
more that 18 years ago.
