Ten of us are the guinea pigs for a BF/Human Lactation Class Dr. Jan
Riordan is offering via the Internet through Wichita State Univ. this
semester. For this week's class we read Chris Mulford's article in
JOGNN, "Swimming Upstream: Breastfeeding Care in a Nonbreastfeeding
Culture". Related to the article, we are to conduct an informal, short
survey of folks from different countries to compare rates of BF and
birthing practices, such as C-secs, epidurals, etc.
Hopefully you'll just see this one request for your feedback which we
need by February 3, 1997, to complete our class assignment. Please post
replies to the following:
1. Country of reference (either currently living in or previously lived
in)
2. Rate of BF (i.e. X% at birth, X% at 6 mos, X% at 1 yr)
3. Longevity of BF (e.g. typically up to 2 yrs)
4. Birthing practices--approx. C-sec rate, epidural rate
5. Anything you think we'd find interesting or helpful
Thanks for your help and for letting us lurk this semester (although I'm
not known for keeping silent long :-) )
