I have Crohn's and have breastfed on sulfasalazine with no adverse
consequences, but my son was 3 yo by then. As far as I know, having
studied the medical literature fairly extensively for personal reasons,
the only reason to wean with Crohn's is if mom's own health and/or
nutritional status is severely compromised. Sulfasalazine rarely *causes*
colitis with bloody diarrhea; this has been reported in breastfed babies
but is reversible when the med is stopped. There are other
breastfeeding-compatible treatments as well, including steroids. Please
feel free to email me privately if you want more personal info about this.
