I sit here with gloves on my hands in about fifteen layers of clothing.  This
super cold snap has many of us in Dallas in shock!  I am trying to catch up
on mail (thank you holiday season)!  I thought I would add my "Why I
Breastfed" to the list.

I came from a long line of midwives however, something happened when it came
to my mother.  She was the "MODERN MOM".  So guess who was fed nasty soy?  I
never thought I would have kids so breastfeeding was not a real issue.  When
I became pregnant I said "hey, I’ll try the breastfeeding thing".  After all
I had done all the best things for my baby so far why not keep giving it the
best.  I didn’t want some artificial stuff!  My baby was a real baby not a
fake one!  I was ready to go.  Then the new mommy no milk feelings combined
with latch on problems etc.

I called LLL and got a woman in San Antonio, Texas.  She was wonderful!  She
made me feel so proud and important.  This was at a time when I was about to
give up hope.  We only spoke for about 30 minutes but, she gave me so much!
 After I hung up I thought how wonderful her job was.  I wondered that night
how many mothers and babies were blessed to cross her path.  I wanted to be
like that!  I don’t know her name but this is just proof…You never know who
or how you touch someone.  You have all changed so many lives.  Not only by
your knowledge but, your love.

I was determined to hang in there.  Armed with her gentle and informative
words I began to fix my problems.  I wanted to show everyone they were wrong
(I had little support from family-husband was my only true alias).  All I
heard was formula was good enough for you (yeah, and I now have every allergy
known to man) and your going to starve that baby etc.  So I guess my main
motive was to prove I made the best decision for my family and teach them a
few things in the process.  After all I had learned I was still hungry for
more.  The whole process is amazing!  I can’t begin to conceive feeding in
any other manner!  My mother is now the biggest BF advocat!  As well as the
rest of my family!  I am so proud!
