An epidemic! I too got a tendonitis from pumping twice a day. Forearm
and thumb. However I was able to help it quite a bit just by doing
vigourous self massage.
It probably was mostly because I almost only pumped my left breast. It
had a better pump let down than the right.

It would not be necessary to pump and dump. Babies get steroids all the
time for other reasons and the amount in your blood stream and hence to
breastmilk would be minimal.
