I just read the following really interesting article that clearly
indicates the importance of continuing breastfeeding.

Anti-depressant Treatment During Breast-Feeding
Katherine L. Wisner et al.
Am J Psychiatry 153:-9, Sept. 1996

"Currently published studies allow the following conclusions.
1... There is no evidence of accumulation of tricyclics in infant serum.
2... infants more than 10 weeks of age are at low risk for adverse effects
from tricylclic anti-depressants.
5.  Whether to breast-feed during anti-depressant therapy is a complex
decision that involves multiple factors valued differently by women,
their families, and their physicians. ... parents must decide whether to
accept the recommendation for immunizations ... a treatment that has common
side effects and a known mortality rate ...immunizations are routinely
recommended by pediatricians ... because their benefits outweighs the risk.
*In our opinion, breast feeding during maternal pharmacotherapy is
acceptable* [my emphasis] if the risk-benefit analysis is carefully
considered and the mother-baby pair is monitored."
