polyunsaturated fatty acids of low birth weight babies fed preterm formula with
and without ribonucleotides: comparison with human milk. American Jnl of Clin

Research in the Netherlands has shown that the addition of ribonucleotides to
infant formula does not raise the level of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty
acids in preterm babies. LCPUFAs have been shown to enhance mental and visual
development in infants, especially preterm. Throughout the 40-day experimental
period breastfed babies had higher LCPUFA levels than both the nucleotide
supplemented and unsupplemented artificially fed babies.
