I received a phone call from a mother of a nine month breastfed baby. She
had her baby in Traverse City and struggled every step of the way to
establish her breastfeeding. This is a highly allergic family (both
parents), so we have really tried to educate her about the management of
breastfeeding so that, hopefully, this baby won't have the severe allergy
problems her parents have.
This family has recently moved to Fort Wayne. She took her baby to a
pediatrician there. The reason for her call to me was that this peds
INSISTED
that she push solid foods and says that she MUST give her baby water and
juice. She has introduced solids, but the baby shows very little interest
in anything but breastfeeding. She is perfectly healthy and her iron is
fine and her weight is at the top of the growth chart. She has never been
sick. I think that her baby is giving a message loud and clear, that her
body is not attracted to other foods at this time. She doesn't totally
refuse, but takes very little.
I would like to be able to give mom the name of a BF friendly ped and a
Lactation Consultant in the Ft. Wayne area. If anyone can help, please e
mail me.
Thanks so much!
