Re : Pyridoxine and prenatal vitamins.
I think too much has been made of the Pyridoxine(B-6) issue. Although
extremely high doses of pyridoxine may reduce prolactin levels, these are
generally doses of 600 mg per day. Such high doses have also been documented
to increase the risk of seizures. The average dose in prenatal vitamins is
approximately 10-15 mg/day, far, far less than the above dose.
As with any vitamin, particularly the oil soluble ones, DEAK, moderation is
strongly advised. Prenatal vitamins are just fine for breastfeeding mothers,
as they are nicely balanced and use safe levels of each component. And lets be
honest, you probably don't need many of these anyway, maybe 2-3 a week at
most. So save your money, you only urinate out the excess anyway. Seems the
kidney is a lot smarter than most humans in regards to vitamins.
