Yes, and I always talk in my prenatal bf classes about all the reasons given
to wean or supplement - unnecessarily. I tell the families to READ MORE
ABOUT IT and I give them suggestions on books. I let them know that they may
be told to wean for mastitis, jaundice, medications, etc. I tell them this
is mostly unnecessary. They HAVE TO KNOW THIS BEFOREHAND. I tell them that
if they are ever told they must use ABM or wean, that they should seek
another opinion fast. I give them ideas of who to call (LC, LLL, another
dr). I recommend interviewing drs prenatally and don't just ask "are you for
bf" but ask "if my baby had jaundice, what would you recommend? If I needed
a blood press. med, how would that affect bf? etc" You get the idea. I feel
so strongly that this happens so much, that I forewarn and forearm the
families.
