Well, breastfeeding helped solve a case on NYPD Blue tonight. A new female
detective went out to investigate a case where a woman's brother was
threatening her ex-boyfriend, trying to make the boyfriend marry the woman
because he had (allegedly) gotten her pregnant and left her to have the
baby all alone.
The detective went to talk to the brother, and heard the week-old baby
crying in the background. The detective insisted on seeing the mother and
baby. Then went back and told her boss that something was wrong there,
because when a week-old baby cries, the mother's breasts should leak milk,
and this woman wasn't leaking, and didn't seem distressed by the baby's
cries.
She was right, the woman wasn't the baby's mother; there had been a crime
committed, and of course they were able to solve it.
*But*: Too bad NYPD Blue never let Sylvia bf Theo (at least I never saw it
if she did). That would have been a great opportunity to portray a
successful careerwoman breastfeeding her baby.
