Today I read lactnet and came across an issue I've been coping with for a
week. I have two mothers who have very low normal thyroid levels. One
mother is diagnosed hypothyroid and on replacement therapy, her levels have
dropped since giving birth but are still in normal range. The other mother
has a cyst on her thyroid that needs periodic draining. She is not and has
never been on replacement therapy. Both doctors are refusing to do anything
since the thyroid levels are within normal ranges, albeit low, but normal.
Anecdotal information is around that low thyroid levels will cause a
negative impact on milk production but I haven't found anything more
concrete. I'm off to the library today to search but if any of you have
anything could you e-mail me with it, please. Both are in the first couple
weeks postpartum.
