Hello. Many list members have been asking about Niplette. I am a public
health nurse at a well-baby clinic in Norway. At the clinic midwives and MDs
see women for prenatal care. In Norway Niplette has been on the market for
some years. I do not know of any similar products. Niplette is recommended
during pregnancy but under MD supervision since there may be a risk for
premature contractions. I do consultations for the MD and midwives if they
meet women who need extra information about breastfeeding. We have had 3
woman with truly inverted nipples who were able to breastfeed without any
problems after using Niplette. A colleague used it successfully for 2 women
who previously had failed breastfeeding twice due to truly inverted nipples.
I find this device very useful if a truly inverted nipple is the problem.
After milk production has started, Niplette is difficult to use as it tends
to slip off.
I met 2 women who had surgery for inverted nipples 2-3 years before
getting pregnant. They became engorged but were not able to express any milk.
Elisabeth.
