I have a mother who had breast cancer 7 years ago. She has a 3 day old baby
and would like to breastfeed. Her oncologist is recommending against it
because of what we don't know. He seems to feel that the progesterone will
increase her chances of another malignancy. Susan Love's 1st edition (I'll
check the 2nd edition when I get to work) doesn't indicate a problem unless
the first malignancy was discovered during a pregnancy or lactation then she
feels it could be hormonally related but states that there is a lot we don't
know.

If any of you have any research based information that would be useful in
this instance please let me know.

Parents are currently planning to wean at 2 weeks unless they are convinced
there is no risk.

TIA

Denise
