I asked Dr. Hartmann that exact question last January (whether milk is synthesized faster during a feeding). He said no - and has done many, many measurements to confirm it. There is some milk made during the feeding - but at approximately the same rate as before and after. Rate of synthesis seems directly related to "emptyness" of the breast - the emptier it is, the faster it's trying to refill.
