One of the moms who delivered at our hospital and whose baby was in NICU for
awhile just stopped by. States her baby has biliary hypoplasia and will need to
go to Cincinnatti for a liver transplant in the next 6 months. Aside from all
the terrible stress this involves, she has been told by the MD here, that she is
hurting her baby by continuing breast milk as she should be on Augmentin due to
the excess fat in breastmilk. She's very worried, but baby refuses the
Augmentin and just doesn't eat. Bottles are not the problem, as she takes
breastmilk very well from a bottle. Is she truly hurting her baby? What
should I tell her?
I'm going "no-mail" so please send the message directly to me as well as to the
list.
