My reading on latex implies that it is repeated exposure that causes a
problem. I wouldn't think that a one time use of finger cot would be a
problem, however repeated use in "finger feeding" could. That's why I like
parent's ungloved hand to finger feed. For the nurse in the hospital
ungloved finger feeding would be unsanitary - even dangerous. (you all know
that hospital germs are the worst).
I looked in every medical and nursing ref. in our office yesterday and
couldn't find one thing on urate crystals. I "know" they are common in
first few days, seen in BF and ABM-fed babies, & scare moms. If anyone
comes up with something I'd love to know it. I thought the suggested
"protocol" was a little extreme. Early on it seems to be harmless. Anyone
else have thoughts on this?

I like the terms underarm or side hold. Never "cottoned" to "clutch". Do
you realize how hard it will be to change this term? Every nursery nurse in
the US, uses it (sigh), at least we should be encouraged that they are using
alternative positions.

Sorry that my messages are all lumped together. Haven't figured out how to
line them up and send all at once and I get charged each time I use 800 #.
At least I'm now sending messages! I continue to learn computer one baby
step at a time.
Time (of which I don't have much!) Daughter Laurie progessing in healing.
Plastic surgeon thinks most of graft will take. Didn't get clear margins,
close, so radiation is a neccessity. She started the 4 kids homeschool on
Mon. anyway.

Pam-sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I still miss mine. Our
relationship had it's ups and downs, but overall it was good and I have many
fond memories. Sincerely, Pat
